An effective PM management process offers numerous benefits, such as integrating the actions of all stakeholders and minimizing rework. This control process document and high-level sample project plan offer a blueprint for effective project management.

Many factors can contribute to project failure, and certain symptoms are clear indicators that things are likely to go awry. For example:
  • Slipped due dates and project cost overruns
  • Frequent emergencies (reactive mode is SOP)
  • Project surprises (dependencies, unknown commitments, etc.)
  • Extensive rework late in development process
  • Project processes and procedures defined but gathering dust
If your organization exhibits some of these symptoms, an effective project management process should be a high priority. This project control process document, created by the Enterprise Computing Institute, encompasses each aspect of the project lifecycle, including processes for managing change, a responsibility matrix, and documentation and reporting specifications.
