It is very interesting that the same group of people who are so disciplined in organizing projects for theri companies, that they can't be disciplined to take the necessary time to study for the PMP exam. I suuget that a you find a local chapter and/or study group to have the accountability for your study time.

I suggest experience and a week with Rita's book. Take opinions from folks that can't spell "their" and "suggest" for what it's worth.

I teach the PMP Prep course for PMI and I have made a number of suggestions over the years for those that don't have the time to take a sit-down course.

The PMP Exam Prep by Rita Mulcahy and PMIQ by International Institute of Learning are great sources for exam prep and help you pass the 35 hours of approved preparation required for the the test.

Just studying on your own doesn't help you take the test anymore, because of the 35 hour requirement.

Using your experience and knowing the PMBOK is the real focus. Remember, for the purpose of taking the test...the PMBOK is always right!

WOW .. there are 15 copies of this article on the web. Makes me wonder who the original author is.

Search for "active approach to the job by not waiting until a risk" (enclose in double-quotes) and see for yourself.

I had taken the test last week, but i failed.
The reason behind is :
1. I had purchased pmstudy material, and only prepared pmstudy material (4 test papers = chapter wise knowledge areas questions)

friends please please dont buy pmstudy material, they are very easy questions and has no resemblance with actual pmp exam.

i am sharing this info coz i dont want others to do same mistake which i had done.

best way to pass which i believe now is only to read throughly pmbok...which i am doing now.

EMOTIONAL & CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE (EQ/CQ) TRUMPS IQ for Project Success

I came across an interesting website for project managers. The site studies the importance of emotional and cultural intelligence (plus some other attributes) of project managers in relation to their project management performance.

It offers free assessment in those two intelligence quotients (EQ & CQ), which are found to be more important than IQ for professional success. Such professional assessments normally cost hundreds of dollars but the site's free assessment is for a limited time only. The assessments were designed by pioneers and eminent researchers in the respective fields. I recommend you to check it out because it may be beneficial to your career.

There are many great study tools available that teach you not only the key material but how to take the test. These sort of resources really make your study far more efficient and focused that simply reading the manual over and over and are well worth the mostly modest investment. Video tutorial series that allow you to watch on portable devices are a great idea, you can grab a study moment wherever and whenever you can!

Microsoft Project Certification is highly rated and very well-known, but is supposedly the toughest exam for PMP. Clearing it requires thorough knowledge of business intelligence and reporting, demand management, portfolio selection & analysis, demand management, and other Microsoft Project capabilities. Although there are many sources to help prep for the PMP exam, (e.g. Project Management Book of Knowledge), practical experience is what really matters and helps tremendously in successfully clearing it. You can also find instructor-led interactive training opportunities locally or in virtual classrooms, and workshops at Microsoft. These sessions are very helpful in making you well versed with the software. The training materials and on-demand assistance provided by professionals help in understanding the software and getting the Microsoft Project certification

I successfully passed the updated PMP exam last week and below I am sharing my experience in general, study guides and preparation I took which might prove to be useful for someone.

About the updated Exam:

*It took me almost 3 hours.
* Some tricky questions involved picking the ???best??? of many correct answers
* The technique of eliminating 2 answers first didn???t work in some cases???for some there were 3 correct answers to choose the ???best??? one from
* Many questions were direct.

My preparation:

* of course the pmzilla and techrepublic community (silent lurker in the forum, listing hints, strong resources, exchange private msgs with passers)
* took trainings from PM Prepcast and PMChamp
* took an intense online PMP coaching from PMChamp (the updated 2011 exam - highly recommended)
http://www.pmchamp.com/pmpguide/?ref=techrepublic

* Rita's exams (very useful, highly recommended)
* PMBOK Guide (little read here, read there only) Im more into taking mock exams
* I listened to the PM Prepcast on drives to and from work

Insights:

* discipline and determination are rewarding buddies
* The PMBoK is a standard and framework, not best practices
* 3 days before the exam, take time to relax

my prayers are with you PMP reviewers! you can do it too!
Certain areas of the PMP exam will be tested in a different way because an existing domain was seen to be common across all content areas of the exam. Specifically, the Professional and Social Responsibility content area will now be tested in every domain rather than as a separate domain on the exam.

This means that questions from the Professional and Social Responsibility area will now be spread out in each knowledge area and process group.
