Using the 'sa' account grants the account FULL access to everything on the database server. Changes could even be made to tables in the master database. A better solution would be to include a new account (and the instructions for building the account) that could be used to access the tables and retrieve data.

the linux should have iODBC?

Yet another way to access to MSSQL is ADO.
But it's very legacy way and it available on Windows clients only.
