Totally agree that in-body links need to stand out and be styled differently than navigational links. Like in the CSS Zen Garden (you may need to remove any extra spaces the Jive software inserts in the url):

It's not obvious in this particular style that you can hover over some of the acronyms, like "DOM", and get a little pop-up with the full definition.

I know I like sites that make it clear where I am and where I am going. Most people I have talked to also like it. As the designer, it is up to you to make the path clear. This is not a video game. For most of us, it is business, and a clear, easily read and navigate design is appreciated.
