As an off-line soft cover reference, I recommend the book PHP by Visual. Their slogan is "Read Less, Learn More", and it's true.

This is a great read for those that have a firm understanding of "what" they want to accomplish in software, but not necessary the mechanics as to "how".
It is nicely define function here, but if goes in deep and define with site-configuration like admin, then it should be great.
take some best examples to explain the concept like
divide the example in to 3 categories
1. beginner level
2. intermediate level
3. expert level
so that the searcher can find easily and he can go through what ever he wants.

totally ... a very well written explanation, just as we remember from the old days in school (don't know how young you are, though)

I wonder ... would the author of this article be willing to give a short introduction on "Harald's" attempt to create his own individual language by creating his weird "tep_what_ever_that_is_good_for" strings and code-maze?

Although I am not complete PHP-dummy, using PHP and wanting to use oscommerce ... you'd need to learn understand Harald' brain first before trying to understand his coding set-up and that's a bit difficult if you're not even allowed to know if there is a brain. No, sarcasm aside, I think oscommerce is the weirdest I've come across and their forum support ... mentioning SPOOKS in specific is worse than my sarcasm about them here!

He seems to use the forum to try educating people who raise a question to teach how to use Google ...??? Excuse?

Have a great day

the basic php syntax which opens and closes php ... in this case you should place your function like this ...

that's why you get parsing errors - you didn't do this, did ya?
