I find it hard to believe that this is even close to subjective. Python is an okay language but to claim it is that much easier than Java is insane. I've used many languages and picking up Python was NOT easier than Java. I'd put them on even parin that area unless you already know other languages in which case Python loses with the indented syntax that most programmers find wierd (not wrong just weird).
As for reading Python without documentation. Bull! I've picked up many a Python program and they are no more readable than Java (yea C++ can't win here).
Also interesting that many C++ libraries were used despite the earlier comment in the article that C++ and Java would have added to the problem (since when?).

I think some detail about Python in this application would make for some good article stuff. How it was used. Some samples etc.

While the code for this article is not available, future articles will offer a more tactical approach.

Hmm, programming is never easy, and programmers are rarely objective, but in my experience I do get more done in Python than Java. That's based on once having coded the same web app twice in each, which took about 1/2 has long in Python. Plus lotsof subsequent Python experience.

I'd really like to understand your perspective because I've got a vested interest in trying to get more people to try and use Python. Have you written anything substantial with Python? I'm trying to understand when it is that people transition to being gung-ho rather than skeptical (and that transition does seem to happen often and deeply, but not with everyone).
It would be great if this app can be used to start an open source strong program management software.
I'm not really surprised by the negative reactions to Python which eg C++ programmers display...it takes a long time to get really good with any language...but Python is a lot more straightforward than most. This makes anyone, who has invested theireffort elsewhere, defensive. The telling comment for me is that non-programmers can use the language: that is a huge advantage to any multidisciplinary development.
Yes my reaction was negative but not to Python. Rather to the language strive against C++ and Java that were so obvious in the article. I find that an article has better impact when it tell why something was used instead of vague statement about another language causing more problems than it solved.
If you noticed I said Python is on even par with learning as Java (I have had to learn both so I am somewhat qualified to offer my opinion).
Non-programmers can't use Python. I have yet to see a non-programmer write programs beyond printing hello to the screen. The idea of non programmers using the language is a pipe dream.
