no webcam will work with my laptop, why not?

first up, im running windows 7 32-bit on a Compaq Presario R4000.
system specs are:
-2.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 3500+
-1GB (2x 512MB sticks) DDR Ram
-Mobility Radeon X200

the webcams all work on other computers just fine, ive tried all of them on my desktop computer and i have no issues.
the drivers im using are the generic windows drivers, i know those will work because they operate fine using those on the desktop, having the manufacturer drivers installed doesnt make a difference.
in device manager there are no errors or yellow triangles, the webcam is recognized and "working properly".
ive tried starting a video feed from VLC, because that works on my desktop, but it doesnt start up the webcam to get the video feed, or something. the light doesnt turn on either.
when i try testing it with skype the video feed box is black with an error reading: "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam".

so im stumped. why arent any of the webcams working with the laptop?

I would prefer to do sfc /scannow first in your command prompt later use any free registry cleaner and clean up the registry including uninstalling earlier softwares you installed for the webcam.

Can you please mention your webcam model so may be i can help you by a right driver or an alternative solution for it ?

i'll give the sfc /scannow a shot, but ive only installed manufacturer drivers for one of the webcams ive tried, but the others dont work either.

one webcam is from a LG R405 laptop,
another is from a HP DV6000,
and the last webcam is a dynex one. i cant really give any more information than that.

i installed the drivers for the LG webcam but after it didnt work i uninstalled them to no avail. ive been trying to use the generic drivers with the other two.

Can you uninstall everything and install the drivers below.

what version of win7?

Several questions: 1. Are the cameras USB or do you have the wiring (including power) properly connected or grafted into your system? 2. If the wiring is correct and you have power properly applied to the camera/s, what software (all programs that are running including startup) is active on the computer? Try running the computer in "safe mode" as minimal drivers and software are initiated upon startup and see if this corrects your problem. If so, you know there is a program that is interfering with your attempted use of the cameras. Use msconfig to stop incidental software runup at startup to isolate. 3. How old are the cameras, could they be too old for compatibility with Win7?

they are USB, as most webcams are.
i dont currently have any applications running at startup except Desknotifier and skype, i usually disable that option because i'll open the program when i need it. and im sure the wiring for each of the cameras is correct, since they work with other computers.
i'll try running in safe mode and see what happens.
the cameras are a couple years old, but my desktop and the LG R405 both operate (or in the case of the R405, operated) on windows 7 without a hitch, the webcams work fine.

Since you have tried different (other than generic/default/included) drivers, if the safe mode doesn't give you relief, have you checked to see if other USB based products readily interface with the laptop? You might have corrupted USB interface drivers on the computer or maybe a damaged USB port or two.

My laptop did not work with webcams like that.
