RE:I've only seen that a couple of times

Thanks for the reply.

I just find it unusual that it occurred on several computers across my network, Symantec suggests that it is a common issue with Windows 7 and not anything caused by malicious software.

Windows 7 Startup Issue
Rjae Updated - 4th Oct
Hello All,

I've recently come across a problem with several of our machines and trying to find the cause.

The problem occurs when trying to load Windows, it passes the POST and then proceeds to a BSOD with a message PROCESS1_INITIALISATION_FAILED

A Microsoft KB article suggests to delete the "bootcat.cache" file, however did not state the actual cause only that the file had changed in size or had been corrupted.

Anyone else come across this problem, I would also like to know what the bootcat.cache file actually does. I assume it stores the structure of the disk in this file??

Thank You in advance
And while I wouldn't say I know why it happens on a few occasions I've seen it happen it has been after a forced shutdown of Windows by removing the power and not shutting Windows down properly.

The other occasions that I've seen it I have no idea why it's happening.
