Prior to sending it off for repair, it would be wise to copy everything you
want. The problem being that you can't boot the system, so what you can
try is removing the hard drive and attaching it as a slave drive in another
computer, BUT, if you open your computer, you may invalidate the warranty. So, I would ask the service tech if they would be so kind as to
copy everything from the defective disk to the replacement...they should
do this as a matter of course, but it will not hurt anything to make sure they
understand your needs right upfront.
