Linux Desktop has gotten traction in Europe at the Governments and Universities. The successful deployments have been facilitated by systems integrators (EDS, CapGemini, IBM, etc) building out the desktop services infrastructure that complements what the organization has already for Windows. In NA, the primary deployments have been in industry for thin client desktops (tied to Citrix) or in product engineering and research. The largest desktop deployment is US DOD and US Security Agencies. The key is to have someone build out the desktop support infrastructure for Linux, most failures have been because the systems were not locked down and the support staffs were not linux conversant.
