When talking franchise, you have to include everything that came out of the Dungeons and Dragons camp. All the books, I still love the Dragonlance series, video games, dice games, bad movies, cultural references.

As to the earlier topic of gateway science fiction, I don't know if there is better gateway fantasy than the Dragonlance books.
