The standard GUIS
that come with most of the distros are resource hogs. There are several GUIS you can use with linux, note they are an extra to the operating not part of it like windows.
Windows loading includes the GUI, but you can't load it without one and building in graphics to the kernel is one of it's biggest security and design failings.
Ask a question for recomendations on which GUI to run. Apotheon and Jacqui for instance can give you chapter and verse on that.
Don't have it boot straight into the GUI either, that will give you a chance at squaring up what you need where.
