As a user of VoIP calls mainly to set call to India, I have seen switching between VoIP provider is quite easy. And this with Microsoft's user experience as well as vertical integration starting with OS might be a very strong advantage it will have.
So Skype will have to come up with certain advantages like Firefox, to keep the MS mammoth at bay.

Just Goes To Show

I thought we had antitrust laws.

Well they got away with it once before so I guess that they
know they can get away with it again.

I just want to know why a corporation that has so much
needs to have everything. It's kind of twisted.

Anti-Trust?
SpikeyMike 22nd Jan 2007
I thought I understood this anti-trust stuff fairly well, I guess not.

It was my understanding that a monopolist may not leverage their existing monopoly position to enter a new market. AFAIK, VOIP is an existing market. Is anyone awake at the DOJ?

FYI - Asterisk is a VOIP solution that is here now, and it is Open Source.

Further, if you'd like a unified messaging platform, Communigate Pro is here now too.

So much for Microsoft innovations - too little, too late and costs too much.

This is a prime example of follow-the-leader. Microsoft represents "Business Communication". Skype represents the "Little Guy" that just wants to make a phone call. I'm sure you've noticed that Skype now has a business calling initiative, but it won't last long, once Microsoft gets in the game later this year. Businesses will always follow what they know for sure works. Any one that wants to compete with them, has to come out from a different angle all together.
