I reviewed a friend's log on his SBC 2-wire router and I see several computers that are not his that have been connecting (wirelessly). I'm thinking that if he changes his access password and makes it real hard by using a password generator that he should be able to stop this.
On another note, since I have the identical device I tried changing my router password and couldn't get it to work. So I'm kinda stumped as to what to do for him at this point.
Has anybody else tried to change the router password on the 2 wire 1701 and experienced any problems? Will periodically changing his password protect him? What else should he do?

What sort of security are running on the wireless? If you're not secure, anyone can use it. Just changing the admin password won't stop that.
stopping only the most novice hackers. Does it support WPA or WPA2?
If so, set that up and change PWD every 30-60- days.

Thanks, I reconfigured with WPA-PSK and used a random generator to gen a pretty strong password. I tested on mine and will work on my friend's this weekend. WEP looks pretty easy to crack.
If that doesn't do the job I can put static ips and limit it to his computer ips.
