I am trying to add a Web Search feature to an internal website on IIS 6 using the components in Frontpage 2003 but I cannot get it to work. Complains about Frontpage Extensions and/or Sharepoint services not installed. FP Exts are installed but do I need Sharepoint services installed? MS Articles are hopeless.
SharePoint4Me answers a lot of questions about the differences on their site too.
Hey Scott,
Thanx for the timely info, as these days, I'm exploring all this [Actually a top question is that can we fulfill our requirements without paying for SP]. The features we need are:
Document Management System [folders, files, permissions, etc]
Document Creation Process [Create, Review & Approve, Publish, Expire]
User Announcements
Lastly for DRM we would like to integrate Microsoft Rights Management Server [I know SP has it out of box, but what about WSS].
Also if can compare or give your views on customisation and development on top of WSS and SP that will be great.
Any advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanx & Regards,
Deep

Hey Guys,
Looks like WSS can do lot of stuff out of box that I was looking for, except for two things, for which I need help from Gurus:
1. Inline [browser] Editing of Documents [without using the Office applications]. I don't want to allow users to download documents.
2. Relationship between Documents [I want to create Master document and its supporting docs] and to change the status of all the related documents to "Pending Approval", if any of the document is modified.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Deep

I have searched the web and Microsoft's site and I cannot find anything that shows me the bottom line pricing for Office SharePoint Server 2007 Standard CAL. I just want to know what I need to purchase a full copy of what I need to get this up and running. Any help Scott?
Part of the reason you will have a hard time getting pricing directly is that Microsoft has a number of different channels for aquiring products, and the pricing depends on the channel.
I am a Microsoft Partner and software specialist, so I would be happy to help you.
For this basic quote, I am using the following assumptions:
You will qualify for the Open License program.
You have one server that this will run on with no more than 4 processors.
Access is by named users - anonymous Internet access requires a different license.
Under these conditions, the server license would be $6636.00, and CALs are $140.00 each.
If you need more help, please contact me.

Would it be possible if you could provide the pricing for the Enterprise CAL of SS? Would be much appreciated, I am currently investigating a possible project and just need some pointers if you can.
Thanks in advance.

In WSS a file cannot be located in a standard shared network location. The only way to access a file that is in a shared location is to put it in a ftp site and then create a link to it.
Does SharePoint Server handle this better. An example is that I have a linked spreadsheet that is automatically updated. I need that file to reside in a specific network shared location. I can only upload the file on WSS. I want to be able able to have the file accessible on SharePoint but reside in the normal network location. Another example is that I have a spreadsheet emailed to SharePoint. I can see the spreadsheet on the network but when I create a DTS SQL job to use the file to modify a table in SQL, it cannot be automated because of permission issues. If it was able to reside in a normal shared folder, it would not be an issue.
Thanks
