I think you're confusing changing of tone with changing of message
"But basic common sense tells me to do what I should to secure my network and if I think hiding the SSID is one of those measures I will. You can't stop me. The same for limiting DHCP addresses etc."
I can't tell you what to do; I can only tell you what I know. If you want to insist on wasting time, increase the broadcast profile of your laptops by forcing them to probe every 60 seconds for every SSID they've ever connected to, then just do as you please. What you won?t get me to do is acknowledge or pretend that?s secure or a wise usage of time.
I do treat others with respect and I haven't insulted anyone here. But it seems to me you're confusing what respect and tone is. You're not asking me to change my tone, you're asking me to change my message or at least agree that other points of view on wireless LAN security have merit even though I know they don't. Being respectful doesn't mean I have to acknowlege I agree with you.
You?re confusing wireless LAN security with a subjective matter like what?s a better movie or what?s a better flavor drink. I?m sorry it?s not. Good security and good crypto is not a subjective matter, it?s a science. It's not a popularity contest and I'm sorry I'm not popular with you on this topic. I've laid out my advice in as clear and concise manner as possible and that's the best I can do.
