According to Hitwise, Google is the most popular search engine. Do you concede or beg to differ? What's your favorite search engine and why?



Ok, I'll start... I'm a full-fledged Google girl. In fact, Google is my home page on my home PC. There are even a few people here at TechRepublic that use Google to search content on our site -- not that our search feature doesn't work (a-hem), but Google does a really excellent job of quickly locating exactly what you're looking for.

I use Google now more than any other engine. I used to use metacrawler because it would search most of my favorite engines at once. Alternatively I use Yahoo but notice Google pulls more relevant results.

I sat and watched my first pc get built and Lee set it to have google as the home page. I have since built a few thousand computers and thus build all my own and those for friends & family - I still set the HP to Goog's! 9+ years running.

Yep, I use Google 99.9% of the time. It is also my home page both home and work.

I use Dogpile, a metasearch in preference to Google. However, the fact that Firefox comes with Google as the default for their search bar can't hurt, and I must admit that I love my Google Desktop search.

Personally I do not use google, however, my favorite search engine, (since 1993), and one that I personally recommend is Dogpile.com, and its UK counterpart WebFetch.com (formerly Dogpile.co.uk). The both manage to achieve the same tasks as google, but without the amassed sponsored links.

Thanks ArthurP...since I use Altavista and Live more than Google these days, after seeing your post I thought I'd check out Dogpile. From the few searches I did, it seems pretty good. Like the ad free aspect too. Guess I'll add it to my list of search engines to use and avoid Google Ad Bombardment altogether.

Web Ferret that hits ALL the search engines. When I need to get down to brass tacks in a search THAT is where I head.

Otherwise, I use Google and Yahoo intermitantly with Google giving the best results out of the two. Google has a MUCH better indexing system than Yahoo does but I find that there are times when I find stuff quicker on Y! than Google.

It loads clean and quick. There is a minimum of ads and when I go to the Internet it is to find something. I don't want all the extra pictures and web page activity, I want to either enter my search terms or call down a web page from my favorites. I also like the way Google BOLDS your search terms to make them stand out.

Dog Pile is great it compiles searches from Google, Yahoo, MSN search and ASK into one coherent result page.

I used to use Google all the time but lately I've been using Altavista and Live just simply due to the fact that I'm sick and tired of being bombarded by ads. More importantly I've started to notice that identical searches when done on Google bring up what appears to be their higher paid advertisers. When I do a search, I want it to return information based on content, not by the amount of money Google gets in their pocket. Yahoo is just way too busy of a search page and I find with Altavista and Live I'm coming across all kinds of smaller sites with useful information instead of just hitting all the big corporate ones. So Google is out, Altavista and Live are in...

Even if I am a fan of Google's many webmaster tools I can not say that it's search engine is the best one around.
I always do my searches on yahoo because the results are far better and to the point than google's.

I mostly use Google for all of my searches but occassionally I will use Yahoo and Ask.

I think most automatically turn to Google because there is nothing intrusive on their Search Page, it has their title and the search field and a couple of "buttons" - the others feel the need to load everything under the sun which turns us off. BUT I believe Google has a problem with Spidering Web-sites. My site is considered to be a "professional" creation and Yahoo plus others have no problem having my site listed, but with Google it has been a hopless case. You can set them up correctly easily with hidden keywords and descriptions etc but Google just doesn't seem to latch on to it - most other Search engines can and do! So how many sites are we missing around the world because of this problem? So in a way, I hope people still lean towards Yahoo etc for the rest of us!

I do like google but this site seems to do a good job too, it groups sites together so if you look up a general word you get to look at more specific areas.

Searching for contents Google is great, otherwise for everything else use Yahoo.

I use Dogpile and AlltheWeb most of the time, simply because they use all of the web's search engines together, and they are quite fast at their response.

no .google search is not a best &efiicient
but among all the present search engines it is excellent.so google has to strive for drawing more efficiency
