Good point. The original article seems to support your comment about abuse of monopoly, even to the point of his statement that there is no viable alternative.

It's clear to MANY geeks what the better software is, and the better price! Microsoft does do some things very well. Unfortunately, I'd list making money as their top accomplishment, not making the best software or hardware solutions.

I use MS software frequently. However, I tend to use OpenSource, multi-platform software whenever I can. Most Linux geeks know Windows AND Linux. When they see what's possible in software, and compare it with the Microsoft offerings, they tend to develop more dislike of MS. I've spoken with MS employees who use a different OS at home, because they consider it a better alternative...even if they can't say that publicly, or at work.
