Keeping inventory of hardware.
Very good open-source alternative to this program would be OpenAudIT (http://www.open-audit.org/). Setup is more complicated then with this program, but the results are great. It doesn't require client agents - it is all done by remotely running WMI scripts (on MS machines). Try it - it's free.
You might be interested to know that iInventory offers these features too. There is a remote WMI scanner feature included, plus, iInventory offers a free time-unlimited 10 record version :O)
What I would like very much in and hardware inventory
is the possibility to add the purchase prise
of the hardware installed so that I can keep track
of total investment in hardware , which is especially
handy in write off, theft ( insurance )
and so on

You can track costs in iInventory. User-editable administration fields are provided for this purpose. Each record has a number of these fields you can use for any purpose. You can rename them to suit your requirements, and add them to reports to keep track of the purchase price :O)
