I'll take that bet! (in virtual dollars of course) The Apple iPhone is going to sell many millions of units. That will hardly be a flop.
However, I don't think the Apple iPhone will live up to ALL of the hype. It won't displace all other mobile phones, etc. I think the iPhone will be a great handheld device. I may eventually buy one, but I have no immediate plans.

Anyway, I do agree that it will sell too stupidly well, however, a month later when best buy and other retail stores are up to their iBalls in iPhones because all they are going to do well is brake, oh and not right click.

I think that Apple has it right and the iPhone will blow the market apart!

Yes, the I-phone has some really nice features, like the ability to view real web pages, and auto orientation of the page when the unit is turned in a different direction, on a pretty color screen and I-tunes capability but there are many huge drawbacks to this toy.
First, is the $600 price tag. How many people are gonna plunk down that kinda money for cell phone that plays music and surfs the web? I venture not that many. There are many cheaper, and better options, like the Samsung Blackjack, or one of the other Windows mobile Smartphones. Second is the horribly short battery life, (typical I-pod issue)it will be extremely short if you use all those features, for any lenght of time, despite the battery life numbers, that Apple is touting, which is just talk time. Third, you better want to dump your current cell provider, and breach your contract with a penalty and go with Cingular/AT&T which is a GSM only provider, that has far less nationwide coverage, and a provider with a poor reputation for dropped calls. Fourth, the data package monthly fees and I-Tunes download fees from AT&T are going to be very expensive. I can't see anyone but the wealthy, the Apple/Mac religious devotees or the "die-hard-gotta-have-the-latest-gadget-at-any-cost-crowd" buying this. It may start out well, thanks to all the media hype, and the lack of information on the above issues, but I predict that the word will get out quickly, and like the over hyped Episode 1 of Star Wars, people will reject this phone, very quickly.

Boy what a shock when I saw pics of the opened up iPHONE and the battery was SOLDERED IN! Also they made the case virtually impossible to open and the SIM Card can't be swapped with any other GSM phone SIM Card!! I heard on the news tonite that rhere may be another lawsuit against Apple, once again over their poor quality, short lived, non replaceable batteries! The bad news on this thing keeps coming, and only a week after the most over-hyped, under delivering product launch in history, right along with the Sony PS3!
Why does Steve Jobs keep trying to force users to do every thing in a sealed, proprietary, non user replaceable or swapable fashion? The rest of the industry believes in freedom of choice, and is not afraid of competition. They make it easy to swap a battery or a sim card, and allow the use of memory cards. They also do not have the rediculous over priced hardware, or batteries. A Sandisk Sansa mp3 player battery is under $20. Cell phone batteries cost less than $86 that Apple charges to replace theirs. Also there is speculation that Apple will NOT replace the battery, but simply swap your phone with a refurbished phone, due to the labor involved with replacing a soldered in battery.
