The easiest way to debut a SQL statement is in the SQL window. For some reason, Access displays a better error message, one that actually provides reasonable clues to finding the error. Simply cut and paste the SQL statement into the SQL window and run it.

Just in case, the SQL window is part of the Query design window. Open a blank query in Design view, and choose SQL view from the View button. That will open a blank window -- just paste the SQL statement in and click Run.
