I have for over 20 years
I started with a 128K (yes K) Mac in 1984. I was the IT
Director at Grinnell College and Steve Jobs was on the
board. I made that into a "fat Mac" (512K) with my own
little soldering iron. I have used many Macs since then.
In 1985 I moved to Rochester Institute of Technology as
the Director of Academic Computing. There we had a ton
of Macs because of the printing, graphic design,
photography and other creative arts disciplines.
In 1997 I came to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science
as the Director of Information Technology. There were
very few Macs. Scientists were moving to the PC or Linux
to run the software applicants they needed. The
Commonwealth of Virginia mandates the use of their
systems and they "only allow Windows based PCs" to
access those systems. I could do it with Virtual PC, but the
performance really sucked.I very nearly went to the "dark
side", but then along came the Intel Mac. Now I have the
best of both worlds.
I have not spent 5 minutes in the last five years dealing
with viruses or ad-ware or pop-ups or all that other
garbage that is a daily experience with Windows. If the
Windows side of my Mac gets messed up I just drag in a
clean copy of my Windows virtual session file and reboot.
I will say, however, that I turn towards Redmond every
morning and thank God that Bill Gates "won". It's called
job security for the computer support industry!! happy
