Ok, I'll bite. How do you accept the mouse if you can't use the mouse? What if it wanted you to accept both the mouse and the keyboard?

I don't have Vista. I have no burning desire to "up" grade to Vista. Can someone who does have it tell us whether this is a real scenario or photoshopped?

look at the smoothness of the "mouse" font compared to the rest of fonts shown.

That Vista is so damn buggy, that very few of us would put it past Vista to pull such a stunt.

I had to laugh at the comment "Look at the smoothness of the "mouse" font compared to the rest of fonts shown" - so what the commenter is pointing out is that Vista's graphics are not smooth... LOL

I think they would have had a prettier icon by the "mouse" too, if it were for real... some kind of rodentia.

under magnification, the word Mouse isn't the only edited word. the device words at the bottom of the window are also edited (they match the coloring of the word Mouse, but not the coloring of the words around them). additionally, while I don't use Windows Vista, I think Vista would use a more appropriate name for the device instead of "Mouse".

I agree, I agree, and I agree. It's Photoshop'd, it's funny, and I would put it past Microsoft anyway.

The REAL funny issue is that many likely hihgh-paid, intelligent, IT professionals would spend so much time on such an issue. You are probably doing it on company time and calling it maintaining IT situatioanl awareness or research or something else.

Put your brain power to good use, quick wasting company time and money and LET IT GO!!!

I don't think Windows has recognized a "mouse" since around 98

I don't remember the bit with the mouse, but I had (I say HAD) Vista and there is no possible horror story that I would not believe about Windows Vista. I was just lucky that I could get all the Windows XP drivers that I needed to up-grade to Windows XP, badly as XP needs some improving. VISTA IS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME.

I have a fairly powerful computer with Vista Ultimate on it, and while I am fairly satisfied, it has annoying things like requiring you to authorize things every time you use them, even though you have had them on dozens of times recently. Also you cannot change them to be accepted without some kind of digital signature. I have two programs that require me to do the click on every time that I turn the computer on. It is getting frustrating, and yet without turning off the whole scheme, you cannon ask the system to accept them without an OK. Also almost every program that I have on my computer has turned off during operation at one time or another. It will usually restart next time, so all you lost is time and your patience. If you have a Firewall and an Anti Virus program installed, this should alleviate concerns about outside sources taking over your computer. I hope that they come up with a fix for this in the next few months. Right now, Vista Users are being used as "Guinea Pigs" to finish up the design of the System. I had XP Professional on my last computer, and sometimes I look at it with a great deal of "Fondness".

Advice from the Horse's Mouth, don't buy a new computer with Vista if you can get by with your current one for another year. By next year, August 2008, Vista should be a lot better operating system.

Just so you know, in case you still have vista, if you go to that item directly and right click on it and chose run as administrator as well as turn off the ula, you'll get less of those annoying pop ups. Still a pain in the butt, but that does make it a bit easier.

I doubt this is real, too. That said, I've seen errors regarding unsigned drivers preventing me from using a mouse until the message is accepted. And the keyboard too, which made trying to use the PC a bit tricky

So I've had fun with this on Vista? Erm, no. Actually that was on a new XP build...

There will probably come a time when any hardware or software developers will HAVE to pay the Ms ransom to be "Windows Certified" or windows will just not allow the installation. Wow what a racket.

Just a simple "yes we have seen this item" message from Ms.

I only wanted to go to my desktop. But the welcome window on Vista basic would not take my password. I was ready to do a repair install, since it would not allow me even to use "previous good system." Then I remembered a brief popup that said my pointing device was unknown. Well here it is, this my mouse thank you. At any rate I was on the outside looking in. Finally it dawned on me I should get this alien mouse unplugged. Then the pad on Dell portable took over and let me enter password and go to desktop. Seems that Vista is courtesy sensitive. Better mind your manners or you won't be able to use your computer.

i don't know of anyone who has had this issue i think it's FUD from looking at the pic you can tell it's a fake.

this is a non-issue.

I should have stared it down into submission and waited until it accepted my password. Should never allow MS system to buffalo you.

Thanks for the refresher. Almost makes you nostalgic for the simpler times when you could actually fix something with a dos tool or debug.

I agree, this is likely not true like the "mouse position changed, please reboot so the change is effective"

Dump Vista and install kubuntu. You'll never see this crap again.

It was bound to happen sooner or later; Vista is merely mimicking human traits. Most people (and all pachyderms) fear and loath the intrusion of the pesky, cheese-eating, pellet-dispensing rodents. Cleaning the cheese from the keyboard and hard-drive (starting with this post) will likely cure the problem.
