Report Offensive Message

Am in the process of configuring a desktop image for a future XP desktop rollout. What would be best practice/standard in regards to taking a template image for the new machines. The new machines are pre-installed with XPPro but have a number of apps along with a hidden partition which are not really required and thus complicate the image. Or would it be better to reinstall XPSP2 from our own media (we have vol license key) and download/copy across approriate drivers.
Have come across various opinions have would appreciate some best practice feedback.
