I have been involved with independent IT consulting since 1993 and can certainly identify with all the issues outlined by the article author. I believe the intent of this article was to provide a summary overview of the various challenges typically faced by an independent IT consultant for anyone contemplating making such a career transition. I believe the author achieved that goal.
