It seems more like the model that is in vogue in the internet age where start-ups often hope to merge with the GYM ( Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft ) rather than blaze a trail.
EBay bought German auction house Alando, which later became Ebay Germany back in 1999 for $40 odd million, and bought German classified site Opus Forum in 2005. So Ebay has always been serious with German market. But I still can't come to terms with this acquisition policy of dot com giants. And we still talk about level-playing field provided by internet. Ebay keeps buying anybody even remotely considered as their competition. So Smaller player dn't grow up to challenge EBay. I also hear stories of people building their business deliberately in competition with EBay so that they can be bought.Silly games!
