I agree in some ways

I agree in some ways. I do not really look for the black marks, per se, but when I see them, one black mark tends to outweigh a LOT of good things. As a result, I tend to interview a lot more people than I truly need to. But that is part of my optimistic nature, I like to think that even a less than stellar resume has a person with potential behind it, if I give them the chance. Indeed, I interview a LOT of people who have resumes that look "junior" to me, "just in case". An unneded interview wastes an hour of my time and their time (plus driving). Missing the right person could waste another month of looking!
