I am wondering what other technologies may be required to provide HD VoIP. Do we need more sensitive microphones? Do we need more reliable (or unreliable) transport protocol for Internet?

I think the microphone would be the most critical part for the quality of the voice. At least it has to deliver the same freq. response as the codec needed.
YES! It really makes a difference! We at IP5280 conducted a blind test of over 200 business people. We had them compare traditional phone service to our HD Voice. The results were 98% in facor of HD voice.
