Nice idea. Now, make this thing a bit larger and put it on wheels with a flip down seat inside, a top that can close, and a small web cam and external KB and mouse inside and separate display for the cam. Then go to some large costume party at a hotel where they judge this stuff. park it next to the judges booth for about two hours and just sit inside and let people come up and play. One can then type smart alec comments from inside the thing about players skill levels - or lack thereof. Then when judging time comes and they introduce "Jon Doe as The Pac Man Machine" you can pop the top, stand up and walk away. Hell, add a mic and speaker and comment on how the cute chick in the Elvira outfit handled your joystick... ;^) Even add a door to the back and you can exit to get that all important beer, hit the lou, or go chat with Elvira...
This is great! Really cool
I think this guy must be genius, because the fine line is money, and this dude has used a laptop, and they cost... I love this, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!
This is absolutely amazing, and it gave the guys I work with something really great to laugh about!

It looks cool, but the laptop battery isn't going to last all night, so you're either going to need a backup, or you'll be walking around with a blank screen, and a non-working arcade costume. How do you reach your wallet to buy a beer if you wear that thing out?
Every 2 hours you have to spend the next hour standing next to an outlet recharging!
Dang that looks heavy to hang out in.

This a great costume and I wish you many hours of female game play!
One quick question - where do you find the game software? I love Pacman and Q#bert but haven't found a versions for the PC. Please let me know how to obtain them.
Thanks

He's using an emulator called mame, it's been around for ten years now, it plays nigh-on every arcade game ever made, it's great! you need to find a place to download the game roms though.
I challenge that assurance. Find the ORIGINAL Mario Bros. proper arcade ROM.
The one with coin level, sand level, ice level and that big POW to flip over all the turtles, flies and other ghoulies on the screen.
I've built a few full sized games, joysticks original boards and all, you can even buy the actual game transfers to decorate your cab as teh original was. They build them still for arcade owners.
Nintendo has been pretty good at shutting down ROM sites that offer that original Mario Bros. chip though. You can find all the other Mario versions but not the original, which I think was the best of all the Mario games. It's worth money if you can find one.

Cool. Thanks for the ROM insight. I've downloaded a few ROM's in my day (*cough*) and have to say, I don't have the original Mario Bros.
Swap out the PC laptop for a Wall Street G3 Mac laptop and I've got the emulator on a working back up.
Would you really flip $5 for a beer to play a cheesy ROM from the 80's on some guys chest at Halloween?
If so, send me an email, I've got some other stuff for you to spend money on.

I have built a couple of full size arcade games, you can even buy the old circuit boards for the ROM chips (dirt cheap!). Still trying to find the original Mario Bros MAME chip, Nintendo has been pretty good at shutting those down.
As for an arcade game costume, I think it would have been just as effective with a fake screen on it. A laptop is only going to last a couple of hours, unless you have the anal plug power adapter and who the hell wants peopl estanding in front of you all night playing a game, talk about turning your party into a chore!
Neato, but no thanks
As for originality, I think the first time I saw one, sans notebook, was at a high school dance in the early 80's, when PacMan was still a cool arcade video game.

PacMan was the ultimate nerd game (nerds ruled the world long before geeks).
Joust was okay, Donkey Kong was acceptable, Tempest was pretty cool but PacMan, MsPacMan etc. were complete homo games, in the days when when that was considered unacceptable.
PacMan, only pu&&ies played PacMan.

i do imagine a trip to the toilet to be an experiance i dont want to witness. so now you cant drink and you need to stand near a power outlet. sounds way too fun for me.
Solution: Stadium Pal!
Despite what you might think, the thing works great!

If you've never seen or heard David Sedaris read his essay on the Stadium Pal, you should totally check it out. Hi-Larious! He read it on Letterman about a year ago--check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBdymtyXt8Y
Well, my guess is it is heavy enough to make you wake up with sore shoulders in the morning, but light enough that your joystick is not too sore and you'll have a decent shot at waking up with someone who'll rub your shoulders?
I think it is just a great idea. Superb work......
It is a good geeky idea, but halloween time at the bar is the best time to dance with chicks (skimpy costumes if you know what I mean)....
So for me, I will need to go a different route!

I wonder if pee is covered under warrantee for the notebook?
oooh! I want to make on for my husband. Got all my routes (like it was yesterday, youngin) I'll rattle his coin slot! No, wait. He carries my computer around for me all the time. No fun for him.
This Guy is a Great Geek. Thanks for the fun - Trick-or-Treat - SWACK.

He's a veritable walking double entendre. Cheeky Geeks are righteous. And lots of fun at parties...
Joystick and coinslot...
I wonder if this nerd managed to pickup on Halloween?
