You've been served! It was just a matter of time until MACs' were the targets of viruses and malware. I guess they can't laugh about Windows now...can they?
Yeah, they can still laugh about Windows, just not as loud nor as hard. There's still a big difference in the number of viruses for Mac vs. Windows. I'm sure as time goes on and Macs become increasingly popular (provided that the current trends continue) the number of viruses for Mac will grow to become closer to the number of viruses for Windows.
The people who can laugh loudest and hardest are the ones using any platform who also know how to secure it from most virus/malware attacks, regardless of whether that platform is Windows, OS-X, Linux, BSD, Solaris, or whatever else is out there.
Will the rise in number of viruses for Mac change my plans to purchase one as my next computer? Nope. I'll just be more careful with it when I get it.

yes but the mac user needs to type in the admin password for the malware to install. unless they are running as admin, not recommended.
of course on PCs users get asked if they want to install such and such, and vista has that security guy asking if they want to install...
see information week article on this trojan under security tab

If you rollup the trojan into a legitimate app, when the user types in their admin password(just like Windows), the trojan would get installed.
I support both Windows and Mac @work. Using an app like iceberg, you can do all sorts of things and run then silently when coupled with other installers etc.
Running things from the BSD command line such as a script, is just a easy. The users won't be able to make heads r tails of it being a fake or real command line entries.

just pointing out they hadn't broken the computer's security with buffer overflow - random code execution type breakin
but social engineering in a way. I have no doubt they will eventually be able to install directly on some, perhaps thru plugins like a PC but the Unix base of the OS is more secure.

I think that this trojan and other virus attacks are linked
(or will be) to this previous article of techRepublick :
Leopard???s firewall flunks security tests (http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/tech-news/?p=1462).
How can someone hopes that nothing will happen after these kind of informations are disclosed (I prefer to mention the fact that I'm not discussing about disclosure problems :D).
So, we have an inefficient (i.e. not working like a firewall should) firewall (Leapoard), an OS used by many people, with others new gadget of Apple connected to it. I do think that these kind of malware were supposed to appear ... . And I do share the idea of Big Ole Jack: When we are proud to have no viruses, we may ask why? and not just for them to appear ..

I am glad that finally Apple user can get thier heads out of their @sses about the internet and the lcack of vulnerability.
For years I have been saying how easy it would be to just create a fake app and incorporate some kind of command line script that runs silently from the BSD command line.
This has never been a Windows only issue. Now that BSD is an integral part of the OS I am laughing 'case these guys don't know a thing about it and root kits which I am sure is next if it has not already hit.

And my condolences for you avatar as I heard he passed away recently.
Well Mac Users you wont feel so left out any more. This proves what I have said all along, that no matter who the software manufacturer is they are all vulnerable to attack. Get it through your thick skulls Mac Users you are not immune !!!!!
I stand by what I said in my previous message.
That said All usres have to be cautious about what they download and install to their machines, no matter what OS you are using.
Anti-virus software, Firewall, Anti adware, Registry cleaners, Spyware removers etc are all great ways to HELP PREVENT these problems on any machine.
At the end of the day it is the USER that has the next to final duty to protect the machine that they are on.
Who is at fault for these vulnerabilities?? The Aresholes that write/create the Trojans/Worms/viruses

Got this stupid laughing every so often on my iMac. OK so someone was trying a
test. Fine but how do I get rid of it?
