arguing with the cost effectiveness, just see how large companies dont prefer spamassassin (they are constantly moving to commercial software) because of the quality reliability and even costs:
developing, supporting and maintaining an open source solution is NOT free.
and imagine a NAC solution is much more complicated than spam filtering so the total cost of ownership will include even more inhouse efforts.
