I was able to resolve the IE error message buy following some of the other posts in this category and disabling some of the add-on's mentioned. I also discovered that the reason neither IE or Firefox would connect to the Internet was because somehow my Norton 360 firewall rules changed to dis-allow both applications to access the Internet. One I resolved this, everything started working the way it was supposed to. Thanks to everyone who has posted on this subject...!

i have had a similar thing occur with firefox, after patching. it has only happened twice, but i have never had a problem with f/fox prior to downing that patch. HOWEVER, the same could not be said for the w.g.a. d/load. i have never d/l'ed that one, but my wife, who runs an on-line travel agency DID..( after i told her not too, of course)...it simply FRIED her o.s., error message after error message, on EVERY app. i have since been informed that the wga is only a BETA, anyway....once again, our friends at redmond appear to be using their own customers as guinea-pigs....this has caused untold hours of work for me, clean install, re-load all her apps, find missing files...oh, gawd, i could go on, but need i...?...you all KNOW what i'm talking about, right?...i have ordered kubuntu gibbon, and if i can get it to function properly, it's good-bye m.$. forever....no matter whether you write a new kernel, or give out belly-dancer's with every copy...
