MS saved Apple so it would look like they had competition and avoid the whole monopoly issue.
Apple used Xerox's idea, which is ok, since 1) ideas are not property, no matter what US lawyers try to convince you of.
2) Xerox wasn't going to use the idea for anything.
3) Xerox got the idea from another company ( I forget the name ), so it really wasn't theirs anyway.
MS got it from Apple in a bit underhanded fashion, which is par for the course between those two companies anyway.
Oh, and if you give money to charity, its a nice tax write off. I do it every year just for that reason.
