Centralized management... like Mandriva's "mcc?" If you haven't seen it, try the Mandriva One live CD. It comes with about 40% of the control mechanisms mcc has available to it. If you install Mandriva and add a package called "drakwizard" you get the rest of the goodies.

And what's wrong with webmin? Or are you talking about some other kind of "centralized management?"

Everything in mcc works near perfect with the 2008 release. Going back a few years a lot of the interface was little more than a cruel joke. But Mandriva has just about perfected it all with 2008.

And to my knowledge atheros is one of the more Linux friendly chip sets out there. I went out of my way to get a PCMCIA card with atheros, and on every distro I tried, it worked out of the box.

Even the minimalistic Slax picked it right up. WEP, WPA, doesn't matter.
