No disrespect...but what you speak of is isolationism. Didn't work so well for us in pre WWII days, don't think it will now.
I wish we were less concerned with oil, but as a nation we are very dependent on it so the middle east problem isn't going away....just the location of our troops change from time to time. Iraq, Iran, Saudia Arabia...we'll always have problems somewhere.
If we weren't as dependant on oil we should deploy our troops to African nations where genocide is a daily occurance. Lots of "evil doers" there, but we have no money $$$ at stake so the US, the UN (that ethical union so many speak highly of) nor anybody for that matter do a damn thing about it. Yeah, there's the diamond industry but that's chump change compared to oil in the overall scheme of running countries and big business.
