Why Apple chose to upgrade the MacBook lineup

I was not aware that Apple "upgraded" their macbook pro lineup untill I found the macbook pro I just purcahsed 3 weeks ago discontinued and selling for $300 less. The slightly faster processor is not a big sell for me but the larger HD and better video graphics plus an additional USB port were the sellers for me. Even though the return policy I bought my laptop at was for returns/echanges at 2 weeks, I talked to the sales person who cleared it with the manager for an even exchange. In the last few days I have had the new Macbook Pro.....I have noticed quite a difference.
