Myriad of funny repair stories...
I really have too many to tell, but a couple of the funniest:

1. Working in a rural area, I used to fix a lot of PCs for farmers. They'd have a PC in their barn that they interfaced a PCMCIA card reader that would take the cards they gather data on while in the field. Some of these PCs were atrocious when they came in. One in particular desperately needed preventative maintenance. You could tell it hadn't had any TLC for a while when the bottom of the case is full of insects & mouse droppings!

2. I had a co-worker that dealt with a PC that came in due to "water damage" - the PC had been in the basement when it flooded, and still had standing water in the case. Despite the fact that the motherboard was wet, the PC apparently still turned on!

3. I had several PCs I fixed in a 2-3 year period that were infected with Sub7. For those unfamiliar, it's a trojan that allows back-door access to a PC & allows for remote control of th machine. One of my co-workers had downloaded the GUI console for Sub7 so he could scan ISP networks & take control of infected machines, to do things like opening the CD drive at random, flipping the display 180 degrees, throw random messages on the screen, etc. He admitted he had wiped out a guy's hard drive, but only once. I talked to numerous customers whose computers had been infected, and that was the last time they went w/o antivirus software, at least as long as they were still my customer!
