You're welcome.

No such word as "themself"

That word is always plural, "themselves." Doesn't MS Word's grammar check flag that?

grin
We install a pre-configured XP image most of the time, but on new models we install XP from scratch. This policy would seem to ensure we won't have problems getting XP drivers for newer models of the listed product lines.

No It doesn't!

IF Microsoft doesn't write the drivers and doesn't allow the OEM to write drivers for XP where, exactly are you planning on getting them from, DELL? No bloody likely, they get them from their source, they don't write their own drivers
"...where, exactly are you planning on getting them from, DELL?"

As a matter of fact, yes, I do plan on getting them from Dell. I don't care who writes them or where Dell gets the drivers. If Dell sells a system with XP on it, they'll include a CD driver with the system and have the drivers on their web site. Have you ever bought a Dell, or dealt with their corporate-level support?

"IF Microsoft ... doesn't allow the OEM to write drivers..."

Why would MS not allow vendors to write a driver? Hardware vendors already have the XP code they need to write drivers. How could MS prevent it?
When I paid for my latest rig, I paid an excess to have XP Pro installed as the OS.

The thought never actually crossed my mind that the inherent cost of Vista should've been deducted. I didn't receive installation discs for Vista with the consignment.

I too paid extra to have XP for my HP Pavilion. Had to make my own Vista recovery DVDs too!
My brother had a lot of trouble with his new laptop when he chose to downgrade to the XP.

The Dell option is great actually and it is a public service I believe the people in Microsoft don't really like

Makes Sense

The only application that we have had issues with is a web based app that some of our users must access on a State website. The State IT people are stuck on IE6, and have told us to expect no changes until summer of 09. We are now using Vista for all new installs except for this one group. For those users, we have ordered new machines now to refresh their hardware while XP is still available. I can understand where the State might have issues with IE7, and suggested FF instead, but was told "never" for that option. Just wait, next year they will update their app to IE8 and require us to buy all new systems again.

Only in Nevada
cne@... 28th Apr 2008
That sounds like something that could only happen in a few places, Nevada being one of them!
Great! Was it my comments to them last week?
All the best

This wasn't true for me, I bought a laptop from dell in october 2007 and they wanted $150.00 more to install XP instead of Vista... So, I chose Vista to save money. I couldn't believe that!
No way no how. You get the choice of Vista or XP, no Ubuntu, and No No OS.

I just tell anyone I have even the slightest amount of influence with, not to buy Dell.
