I live here; I know. Wages are AWFUL. Thankfully my daughter starts college in Virginia; I may be moving soon.
Parsippany, NJ has a high density of large office parks which house the headquarters or backoffice operations of numerous large national and international companies in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, telcom, travel and technology industries. As a result there is large working population of high-end technology folks.

IT workers in Parsippany can command higher hourly rates for two reasons:

1. A huge demand for IT services people as many NY and NJ financial services companies move their data centers and IT infrastructure to Parsippany (close to Wall St. and Connecticut, within real-time replication distance with NY, good facilities, enough electrical power, etc.)

2. The cost of living in NJ is a bit lower than NY, but still higher than the national average
