Low cost killed user education.
I've long thought there was an direct relationship between the cost of a computer and the amount a user was willing to spend on training.
When PCs were expensive, say over $2500, people didn't mind spending another $100 or so on training at the local tech school. When computers became available at less than $1000, spending an additional 10% for a class was seen as a substantial additional expense.
The same relationship applies to the cost of anti-malware applications.
