Buying ATI has kind of gotten AMD a little off of the track in its competition with Intel. I think the long range plan is to hit Intel where they aint - or where they at least aint as strong - the graphics field.Combining a CPU and GPU would give AMD a unique selling proposition. Intel is sitting on the top once more with the Core2 line, but Im sure AMD has something waiting in the wings to try to pick Intel off with once again.

The real problem with the situation is sumarized in the quote itself, "...Competition from AMD forced Intel to create the Pentium III, the P4?s, and then the Core CPUs..." While the quote attributes the competition from the AMD, I imagine that the Intel honchos got some serious heartburn everytime they saw the add or any similar ones. Now with Apple running on Intel chips, and AMD dragging behind in some categories, where does the pressure come from to roll out new improved chips.

But to use that quote: "Seems like one of those things where you shouldn???t say bad things about a coworker because then they???ll end up your boss."Years ago, I had a female coworker who was just OBNOXIOUS to me, especially when I first started. After about 6 months, I said to her "You'd better watch your tongue. I just may end up being your boss someday." She said, "When that day comes, I'll quit." Well, a year later, I was her boss. She quit. See? It all worked out in the end.

This ad in Classics Rock shows Apple taking a swing at Intel's pokey Pentium II:http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/classic-tech/?p=150Nowadays, as we all know, Apple runs Intel CPUs rather than throwing rocks at them. Did Motorola, Apple and IBM abandon the PowerPC architecture too fast or was moving to the Core2 Duo's the best move Apple could have made?
