Okay guys, give it up. Even if it's only a dollar, it all counts. Let the scrolling list be dominated with TechRepublic peers.

Five bucks - Give up a couple of those gourmet beers you all talk about.

Ten bucks - Give up a couple of Starbucks coffees.

With the hundreds and thousands of TR peers, helping Trish hit $10,000 should be a cake walk.

Work a couple of extra overtime hours, and give it to the cause.

The bumps are great, but the dollars are better..

West Side Story.

Tonight, tonight won't be just any night. Tonight there will be no morning star!
as well as other things. If not I would seriously wonder what YOU were doing at an Iron Maiden concert confused

grin
And I aint even goin to compare you to JD (I'd get me head ripped off shocked ) grin
I have no probs though, I think JD's a straight up kinda guy.

JUDAS PRIEST NEXT WEEK!!!!

"I must leave from fear they send
Journey with the dawn
As i take the winding road
Bow my head forlorn
Now i must go

I'm banished in exile
I wander this land
No faith in the future
I'm in their command "

from the new Nostradamus concept album as Nostradamus was banhished in exile for seeing his visions. Unfortunately, after being banished and while seeking a cure for the bubonic plague, his wife and two young children died of the plague.

great album that is a real tribute to Nostradmus. Very operatic and different, lik etheir EARLY albums, so different that many more recent fans are having issue with the new sound. It's one of those album wher eyou either get it or you don't. EPIC!
this Judas Priest album. I loved them in high school and still occasionally break out the old tapes (they never made the cd conversion :(). You have my curiosity up, is it available to the general public yet?

i know I go on about it but I am pumped to see this insurgence of metal returning and making the labels scratch their heads, I really love it! they have debuted in the top 10 all over the world, with some European countries debuting it in the top 5.

Judas Priest is on Sony! Iron Maiden still Sancturay, their own label but they distribute in the US under two major labels now. Even the stupid LA metal bands are coming back, life is good for guys like me who rely on a changing market to fill the wallet.

You can pre it here, along with breif intros explaining the intent of each passage: http://www.judaspriest.com/news/fullstory.asp?id=86DC14E8-134E-4774-A811-D73E6C150282

You can also imeem most of the music from teh CD here (just remember there are long intros followed by very progressive songs. You need to really hear it out to 'get it'.
http://www.imeem.com/tag/nostradamus/

The double CD should cost you less than $20, which is a steal for two brand new disks!

Oh, and thanks for asking, it really is my pleasure to open people up to this amazing work! Hope you enjoy.

80's punk is more my thing, but I have always enjoyed some metal as well; interesting you mentioned Iron Maiden as well, very progressive metal band with a strong grounding in classical composition and literature (subversive education?).
And of course all the old classics I grew up on, AC DC, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Dio....
I have to stop by the ol' store on the way home to get a pad for my laptop with a fan built in... close to over heating in the evenings at the house (no AC), so I will look and see if the CD is out here.

[EDIT]
BUMP!
And its interesting to note, that i have not listened to Judas Priest in 20 years I bet, but they sound the same, only more polished. The distinctive vocals; clearly enunciated, well sustained, distinct voice. The rhythm and tone of the guitars are all as I remember, but the orchestral undertones were masterful.
Only half way through the first listen, but so far I like it very much.
GREAT CD, huh?

As I said you either 'get it' or you don't.

As you seem to have a strong understanding of music, you see the creativity, skill and massive composition of it all. In an interview with Rob Halford, he said that the opening bars of the song Death, was comprised of 180 individual tracks.

It's almost a rock opera and a concept album all in one. I think it illustrates their changing sound through their career as well as showing off new technology and breaking new ground. I have been known to comment that it has become one of my favorite Priest albums to date.

Saw them on Thursday night and it was incredible. Though I went to quite a few shows on their 2005 tour and watched them improve throughout, this just took the cake and proved that they really are the metal gods.

I'll have my video clipped up and on YouTube soon, I'll post a link for you soon.

P.S. Testament was a great opener!

180 tracks? I believe it, it was refreshing to hear craftsmanship like that on the board as well as on the instruments. They must have spent forever putting it all together.

Rock Opera... hmmm, yeah I would classify this in that category, but less like Tommy, and More like The Wall in terms of depth and flow.

That reminded me of a little bit of musical trivia.

Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert of that band (before there was the band) wrote John Denver's hit song Take Me Home, Country Roads, the one that propelled Denver into the big-time. John Denver often gets credit for writing it, and although he wrote a lot of great stuff, he didn't write that one.

Thought you might be interested in that little bit of meaningless trivia. (And for a bump, of course.)

I turn the stereo up any louder in the effort to drown that monstrosity, the windows are gonna rattle right out of their frames.

Give a girl a break! grin

Oh, bump.
To get that one tune out of my head by replacing it with another - and I like Country Roads. It's just delightful in the afternoon.
The only problem I run into, since my music is classified as a form of sonic assault, there is the issue of plaster shaking from the rafters... cool

John Denver, yeah, my MOM used to listen to that..... shocked
