I have seen simular issues
Well in a school any closet is a potential storage room (see where this is going don't we!) well I got an "Emergency" call to a school on a Mmonday morning i beleive just before the State testing was to be done and graded.

Seems that the entire upstairs floor was off the network but the first floor was ok.

When I got to the school I started to go to every closet to find where the issue was.

So I started working my way around trying to figure out how the fiber links went in and out of each switch on the floor.

I was able to clean mops, brooms, and buckets out of each room until I got to one that "MY" IT Master Key did not work on.

2 hours have now passed and getting pressure to get the floor back up I went and asked the Principal if he could open the door. This room was the Janitors office in the back of his room was another IDF closet. (on my Print)

I opened the room and took out a ton of storage / garbage and as I pulled out a mop bucket I heard the switch spike.

Pulled out a flash light and there it was the power cord hanging and bent all to h3ll.

Once fixed and back up I explained to all involved that these closets are NOT for storage and that no one should have a key to them but IT. Was told that the keys would be changed out to prevent this.

Well again the following week the floor went dead.

Easy fix I went to that room with the principal fixed the power cord and called the district locksmith and had ALL the doors re-keyed with electric combination locks.

Problem solved!

Some times we have to bite our tounges and istead of just telling people to use common sense we have to find another way to do things for them.
