I work in a small org and am trying to create a helpdesk process. We're a small department and often get pulled every-which-way (as you are familiar with). I've already sold it to my boss but the big boss thinks "Helpdesk" is a dirty word. "Tech support" is also off limits. Have any of you had to pretty up the name of your helpdesk? Got any ideas for me?
Around here Help Desk is a dirty word but that isn't because of the word itself it was/is a reputation earnd through lack lust service. I would say as long as you are providing prompt accurate customer service it shouldn't matter what you call yourself.
but perception is reality to the end user. There hasn't been a helpdesk here for quite a while, but previous experiences made it a dirty word. Rather unfortunate.
Depending upon what help desk tool your using, Xtraction for Service Desk from Hagrid Solutions can help round out the dashboard and reporting requirements.

I can understand why people think Helpdesk is a dirty word, but at the same time...It's all about marketing.
Make sure you market the service to your users and that you set the expectations correctly. I'd also HIGHLY suggest you get a good helpdesk toolbox. May sure you have ticket tracking software, assignment trackers, service request forms, the tool needed to work on machines, knowledge managment, etc...

Palmetto's Service Desk sounds better.
How about:
Answer Desk
Information Services
Research Desk
Service & Support

...are Service Desk and Information Services.
We call ourselves Technical Support or IT.
Personally, when I'm the customer/user, I couldn't care less if you called it Ma and Pa's Answer Emporium...just get me what I need, and we'll call it good.
