What to do when you can't change the tabs from Word's ruler

Really like the quick technique for getting to the tab dialog box, expecially in Word 2007.
BTW - a similar method works for differently formatted indents.
Select the paragraphs with the different indents, double click the indent marker on the ruler. Viola - the Paragraph Dialog box appears and you can get right to work.
