Thing is, either you have an absolute right to life, which is not forfeitable even by your own doing, or you do not. There is no middle road. Once you cross the line and say that anyone's right to life can be dismissed, you are on the path to your own destruction and everyone you love.
A free society has to have as its basic tenet this absolute right, otherwise its citizens will be subjected to tyranny and oppression sooner or later. You might want to look at history for some examples of this, when certain members have their absolute right to life violated for the 'greater good' and then consider carefully your answer, because how you judge will reflect on your character as a human being.
Also, you should not look at the specifics in my example, but the larger picture. [I didn't specify much actually, say he surrendered, would you still kill him?] That is something that in our line of work we need to do, see the big picture so that when we look at those specifics, they fit better as a whole. BTW, I choose that very example because of its emotional impact. Thing is, can you get past it?
