Heh
I learned about termination on SCSI chains on an Amiga 2000 hooked up to 2 20mb microscribe 3.5" hard drives. After plugging everything in and hooking it up to the Supra controller card, I turned the machine on and watched a little racing line of smoke run up one wire on the 50 pin ribbon, disappear for a second into the connector of the first drive on the chain, then come back out headed for the second drive. Less than an inch from the 2nd drive, I realized that this didn't seem right and hit the power - saving the second drive, and learning a $300 lesson that kept my Amiga 2000 at a mere 20mb of hard drive storage for several more months.

Years later, I worked at a retail computer store that sold used PCs. We picked up an Apple Newton, and we wanted a picture for the weekly ad. This was before digital cameras. Scanners were still expensive SCSI devices that only graphic design houses had. So instead, I put the Newton on the copy machine, face down and put the lid down. Everything would have been fine, if I hadn't had the brilliant idea that it would look so much better with the stylus laying across the screen. So I opened the lid of the copy machine, put the stylus under the Newton, and put the top back down, at which point, I heard and felt a crisp snapping noise, as the LCD cracked.

At that same store, a woman came in one day and asked me and another sales guy behind the counter if we sold Hard Diks. She stood there for a moment, a puzzled look on her reddening face, then turned around and walked out of the store without another word. This is probably just as good, because any answer was bound to get us in trouble...
