Been doing Windows for quite a while since I am not fond of the command line. Finally built a cheap computer and am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron. The desktop does nearly everything now. So far I have had no problems with drivers. Open Office works fine and it's all free.

But if you are migrating try the book "Ubuntu for non-Geeks" by Rickford Grant. It gets you over the hump and introduces to the basic Linux features.
