Ubuntu 8.10 has a vpn failure; it won't connect out of the box and a multitude of tweaks and fixes later it still won't connect from some machines; mine especially.
Maybe Jack Wallen can take a looksee and yak it up among his fellow linuxers with a view towards a universal fix.

You would have much more luck solving your problem by searching the Ubuntu forum yourself or posting a message if you can't find the solution.

I've had something similar, however, at the present time is working. Is there any type of script or command that I can run on my system and that would show the network configuration? If duable and it helps you out, I'll be glad to provide it. I totally like Ubuntu, and have been following it since 6.04 release. Although I rarely use it, I prefere it over other distros. Ultimately, what helped me out, when installing it, was to provide the domain, and it ran the updates even before configuring the network. Manually configuring the IP\subnetmask\defautl gateway did the trick for me, as it will not auto-configure, as it did on previous resleases.
Looks great!
