I also find it ironic, that both recruiters (generally in a contract situation) and employers both want you salary information AFTER you've been hired to be confidential. So, in a nutshell, it's OK for you to disclose your "confidential" information to the prospective employer before they hire you, since it's to their advantage to do so. But in many cases, you can be terminated for relating the exact same information (about the new position) to a co-worker AFTER you've been hired. Of course THAT isn't advantageous to the recruiter/employer.
